Truck buyers of the future want low costs, low CO2 and high efficiency

Richard Green, Business Line Manager at Delphi Diesel Systems, provides a supplier’s view of the truck of the future

The European Commission has made no secret of its intentions to bring in further fuel economy and emissions regulations for commercial vehicles, most likely in the form of a Euro VI.1, possibly around 2020. The assumed target date for new US greenhouse gas (GHG) legislation is also expected to be around 2020 – hence the current use of the term ‘GHG 20’.

In December 2014, the European Union agreed to change rules governing the shape of European truck cabs, opening the door for longer, more streamlined, greener and safer truck cabs. However, the new cabs will not be permitted on European roads until 2022.

Understandably, there’s considerable interest in the truck of the future. Powertrain technology is one – major – factor to consider. Other factors include aerodynamics and design, connectivity, and even semi or fully autonomous drive technology.

A recent interview with Richard Green, Business Line Manager at Delphi Diesel Systems, provides insight into a supplier’s view of the truck of the future.
