Tesla grants US$29bn shares to Musk to prevent departure

Tesla’s board said retaining Musk is “more important than ever” as Tesla attempts a pivot from EVs to robotaxis and AI. By Stewart Burnett

Tesla has awarded Chief Executive Elon Musk 96 million shares worth approximately $29bn after the billionaire threatened to depart unless he was given greater control. The grant, approved by a special committee comprising just two board members, will increase Musk's stake from 13% to about 16% when it goes through in two years.
