The diesel segment is under the microscope following a study carried out by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT). The ICCT's investigations led to the US EPA finding Volkswagen to be guilty of using a “defeat device” to improve the figures obtained during drive cycle tests on a number of its diesel models sold in the US.
At the 2015 Frankfurt motor show (IAA) - and notably several days before the EPA's "defeat device" revelations - Automotive World spoke to two senior executives at Bosch about the future of diesel technology; the discussion also covered the supplier’s plan to “rebuild a positive image” of diesel, a fuel with a reputation for cleanliness that was already under attack in Europe, and that has long struggled to make its mark in the US.
