NOx and PM – city authorities zone in on the problem

Cities around the world are taking steps to improve air quality, but future investments could be tricky. By Michael Nash

In an attempt to improve air quality, or make a bit of cash, several cities around the world have zones that motorists must pay to enter. The rules that govern these zones may become increasingly stringent over the next ten years in an attempt to curb nitrogen oxide (NOx) and particulate matter levels (PM). This could have significant implications on the local powertrain mix.
