MAUT data shows Euro VI adoption outpacing Euro V

MAUT incentivisation drove rapid adoption of Euro V trucks in Europe; the adoption rate of Euro VI seems now to be outpacing Euro V

Germany’s Federal Office for Goods Transport – the Bundesamt für Güterverkehr, or BAG – releases data obtained from the operation of the LKW-MAUT truck toll on a monthly basis.

MAUT applies to around 35% of the German road network, and currently all vehicles over 12,000 kg gvw fall within its scope. However, as of October 2015, this population will be broadened out to include all vehicles over 7500 kg. Unlike many data sets available for assessing the health of the European road transport business, MAUT’s relative immediacy provides a useful counterpoint to the more historical registration data offered by ACEA.

During 2014, Germany accounted for 25.7% of European heavy-duty registrations with 57,886 units being recorded. That in of itself is a significant percentage of the European truck business, but as MAUT also applies to – and records data from – non-German vehicles either travelling within or transiting Germany, the resulting statistics for June can be extrapolated beyond its borders.
