Help wanted for highway innovation

As the UK prepares for an 'era of roads revolution', Highways England wants to harness the best ideas out there to help build the future transport network, writes Megan Lampinen

The global highway infrastructure needs to prepare for the arrival of connected and autonomous vehicles. Innovative new strategies and technologies will be needed in the coming years in order to realise the safety, environmental and convenience benefits they offer. "We are potentially entering the 'era of roads revolution' – a time when technological changes could drastically alter not only our country’s transport network and roads, but even our concept of mobility," stated Jim O’Sullivan, Chief Executive of the UK government agency Highways England.
