Continental and Schaeffler tackle affordable mass-market electrification

Michael Nash speaks to top executives at Continental and Schaeffler about the future of electrification in mainstream passenger vehicles

High upfront costs have plagued the electric vehicle (EV) and hybrid segments. While growth has been continuous in many countries, sales are heavily reliant on government incentives. However, these financial incentives are considered “unsustainable,” so experts believe that developing low cost solutions is vital.

Evolving and upgrading

During a press workshop event at the ADAC proving ground in Schlüsselfeld, Germany, Continental and Schaeffler presented the Gasoline Technology Car (GTC) II – an evolution of the GTC I that was unveiled in 2014. The second generation still uses the Ford Focus platform, but a number of improvements have been made.
