Most OEMs are exploring new use cases around the virtual representations of real cars but these efforts are merely scratching the surface of a much bigger opportunity, writes Axel Schmidt

Car manufacturers have been using virtual representations of real cars for almost two decades now, mostly for marketing purposes. Computer-aided design and realistic 3D renderings of cars have brought down significantly the cost of creating glossy and emotional images, videos and even smartphone apps.
