COMMENT: Vertical integration moves down the US truck weight range

BY ALAN BUNTING. News that DTNA will launch two in-house mid-range diesels will have sent shockwaves down the US truck supply chain

At the recent American Trucking Associations (ATA) conference in San Diego, Martin Daum, President of Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA), made it clear that moves towards vertical integration in the US commercial vehicle industry were far from over. DTNA’s Class 5 to 8 Freightliner Business Class M2 trucks will, from 2016, be offered with in-house Detroit-branded DD5 and DD8 engines.
