COMMENT: Automakers must have full supply chain visibility

The slightest supply chain vulnerability can lead to the most severe of problems – OEMs and suppliers must have policies that cover all business-critical areas, writes Matt Grimwade

The automotive industry faces a major challenge in managing disruptions across its global and complex supply chain. JLT recently published its Global Automotive Supply Chain Disruption Report, which found that the number of disruption events impacting the supply chain increased 30% from 1,306 in 2016 to 1,699 in 2017. Clearly, disruption to the delivery of just one of the thousands of parts that each car today contains has the potential to halt entire production lines.
