Business metrics won’t measure Tesla’s Master Plan success

Tesla's roadmap for future developments has sparked the usual excitement from fans but has met with considerably more caution and reservation from the analyst community.

Chief Executive Elon Musk's first Master Plan came out almost exactly a decade ago. The plan as of August 2006, at which time Tesla's only model was the Roadster, was as follows:

1. Build sports car.
2. Use that money to build an affordable car.
3. Use that money to build an even more affordable car.
4. While doing above, also provide zero emission electric power generation options.
