BMW signs up new tech partner for carbon fibre car parts

Partnerships and JVs are key to succeeding with the use of carbon fibre composites in automotive manufacturing

When its i3 battery electric car went on sale in late-2013, BMW Group became the first vehicle manufacturer to launch a mainstream model featuring significant amounts of carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP). The i3 uses this material in various body parts and the complete passenger compartment.
