Import restrictions and slowing economy keep Algerian recovery at ‘modest’

Following a 30% drop in sales in 2015, Algeria's new vehicle market is expected to grow by 3% this year. By Megan Lampinen

Algeria's automotive market has just emerged from a massive 30% decline in 2015, but the situation should improve considerably this year. BMI Research is forecasting a 3% rise in sales for 2016, thanks in part to the scheduled ending of a six-year government ban on consumer lending. However, this won't make much of an impact following the level of decline recorded last year, on top of which tougher import regulations and a slowing economy continue to undermine demand.
