GM restarts Cruise vehicle tests after robotaxi retreat

GM is conducting limited Cruise fleet testing in Michigan, Texas and California—not for robotaxis, but to bolster its ADAS technology. By Stewart Burnett

General Motors has resurrected its Cruise robotaxis for internal testing to enhance its Super Cruise driver-assistance technology following the robotaxi unit's closure in December 2023. The automaker has deployed a limited number of sensor-equipped Bolt EVs on highways in Michigan, Texas and California's Bay Area, operated with safety drivers present and no public passengers.
