Comeback kid – EGR development to flourish again

Experts think that the continued development of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) technology could be essential in helping meet future standards, observes Michael Nash

Changes to emissions standards are on the horizon. In Europe, the adoption of real driving emissions (RDE) test procedures is slated for 2017, and will include the introduction of portable emissions measurement systems (PEMS) during drive cycle tests. Europe may also be the first to enforce the worldwide harmonised light vehicle test procedure (WLTP) in place of the New European Drive Cycle (NEDC) in 2018.
