In a recent Automotive Megatrends webinar, Patrick Debal, Powertrain System Expert, Punch Powertrain, explored the benefits of hybrid and electric CVTs – a type of transmission that uses variable-diameter pulleys and belts rather than gears, allowing quicker acceleration while delivering superior fuel economy compared to conventional manual and automatic transmissions.
Looking to build on the growing success of its existing CVTs, Punch Powertrain will soon launch a new hybrid CVT in China. Debal believes that CO2 regulations will act as a key driver for the adoption of the technology.
