Significant cost savings achieved

Vortex Logistics, based in Nijmegen in the Netherlands, is updating its fleet with 100 MAN TGX EfficientLine trucks and, in making this change, is demonstrating its focus on environmental concerns.Vortex specialises in optimal just-in-time transport of part loads and parcels, mainly in the Benelux countries, France, Germany and Denmark. “As we travel a great deal to Germany and Alpine countries, it is important for us that we convert the entire fleet to Euro 6,” explained Managing Director Roel Kasbergen. He wants to make the fleet even more sustainable during the course of 2015 by updating the vehicles. “We will then have one of the most environmentally-friendly fleets in Europe”.

Vortex Logistics buys 100 MAN TGX EfficientLine trucks
Netherlands Vortex Logistics is renewing its fleet of tractors with 100 MAN TGX EfficientLine. The company aims to have a pure Euro 6 fleet and is achieving significant fuel savings with the new tractors.

Lower fuel consumption

Vortex Logistics is very satisfied with the 67 MAN TGX 18.440 trucks already delivered with XLX cab and leaf / air suspension. Company management is convinced that, with this truck, significant cost savings can be achieved compared to the previous generation.

The company conducted an on-road trial in order to learn about the benefits of the new Euro 6 technology. “MAN had to be able to perform well against other manufacturers. In the end, both drivers and management opted for MAN”.

Roel Kasbergen explained that it is possible to lower the fuel consumption of the 440-hp MAN with D26 TopTorque engine by a quarter compared to the trucks they will replace. “MAN had claimed this would be possible – and we have seen for ourselves that we can actually achieve this.”

Reliability was also key for the new TGX. “Apart from the usual service maintenance, this truck rarely, if ever, needs to visit the garage. In addition, our drivers were impressed with the ergonomics and high-quality interior”, commented Roel Kasbergen, in summing up.

Making efficiency transparent with MAN TeleMatics
Vortex Logistics use MAN TeleMatics to determine fuel consumption and for a comprehensive real-time overview of the fleet. According to Roel Kasbergen, this tool is indispensable: “Using MAN TeleMatics, we can see precisely how the driver is handling his or her truck. Handling is generally excellent, but it sometimes turns out that there is still some room for improvement. Everything can be explained clearly and simply using this system.”
