Add-on kits for individualized heating: `Webasto Individual Select` for long and short distances, `Webasto Individual Quick` expressly for short-distance drives
A Webasto parking heater offers comfort and safety during the cold season. To enable drivers to benefit even more from their parking heaters, Webasto is now offering two add-on kits permitting individualized usage of the heaters. With `Webasto Individual Select`, customers can decide via smartphone between three heating modes depending on their current needs: “interior” mode for fast windshield defrosting and for heating up the interior of the car; “combination” mode, where the top priority is a warm interior and windshield defrosting, and the engine is warmed up with a time delay; and “standard” mode for a free windscreen plus a warm interior plus a warmed-up engine. Webasto has developed the `Webasto Individual Quick` add-on kit for people who mainly drive short distances. The interior is warmed up very quickly, the front windshield is defrosted, and the battery is conserved.
`Webasto Individual Select` – the parking heater that adapts to customers’ wishes
During the week, people are normally in a hurry in the morning and drives to work are generally shorter than 30 minutes. On weekends, they go on family ski or sledding outings. “We listened closely to our customers’ wishes, and found they want more flexibility when heating. Ideally, they want a single solution for short- and long-distance drives. With this in mind, we developed customized add-on kits. With them, our customers can use their parking heaters according to their needs,” explains Klaus Hemmer, who is responsible for Webasto’s worldwide passenger car parking heater business.
Heating in three acts: interior, combination, or standard mode
`Webasto Individual Select` offers three heating possibilities: When outside temperatures fall to 10 °C (14 °F) and customers want the windshield to be defrosted in around 15 minutes and the interior of the car to be warm, they choose the battery-conserving “interior” mode. Those who desire comfort and a warmed-up engine can heat using the combination or standard mode. The difference: in “combination” mode the top priority is to heat the interior of the car and engine preheating is activated with a time delay, once the interior has reached the desired temperature and the windshield is defrosted. In “standard” mode, however, the interior and the engine are warmed up at the same time. The benefit of engine preheating: the cold start phase is eliminated and there is less wear and tear on the engine, since it is already at operating temperature when you start driving. Moreover, a warm engine needs less fuel and emits less pollutant.
The three heating modes can be implemented technically thanks to the novel integration of the Webasto parking heater in the engine cooling circuit. There are two heating circuits, each with its own circulation pump: one big circuit with engine integration (standard heating mode) and a small circuit (interior heating mode), which is integrated into the small circuit via two check valves, but bypasses the engine. The ingenious thing: the small circuit can also be activated first and then the large circuit with a time delay (combination heating mode). The circuits are controlled via the Webasto parking heater app.
`Webasto Individual Select` is available for Thermo Top Evo 4 and 5 parking heater models. The parking heater is operated by app via a smartphone. In addition to the parking heater and the `Webasto Individual Select` add-on kit, Webasto ThermoCall has to be installed in the car. This is the hardware to use the Webasto parking heater app.
`Webasto Individual Quick` – the parking heater solution for short-distance drivers
Defrosted windshields when you start to drive despite ice and snow, driving off in a warm car although you don’t have a garage – `Webasto Individual Quick` offers all of this and is particularly geared to short-distance drivers. “With it, at temperatures as low as -10 °C (14 °F) the windshield is almost completely defrosted in around 15 minutes and the interior is warm. And a very important aspect for short-distance drivers: the battery is conserved,” explains Klaus Hemmer. Here’s how it works: With `Webasto Individual Quick` the parking heater is integrated via an island circuit, bypassing the engine. As a result, the full performance of the parking heater is used exclusively for heating the interior and defrosting the front windshield. `Webasto Individual Quick` is available for the Thermo Top Evo 4 and 5 parking heater models. To activate the heater, customers can choose between a pre-selection timer installed in the car, radio remote control with a reach of up to 1,000 meters, and activation via smartphone and app. The latter requires the ThermoCall control panel.
Price and availability
Both add-on kits are available for Thermo Top Evo 4 and 5 in Germany starting immediately. The suggested retail price for `Webasto Individual Select` is 198 euros. The SRP for `Webasto Individual Quick` is 89 euros. All prices are gross prices including statutory VAT.
