Major milestone to deliver trucks outside Europe for the first time in MFTE’s 50-year history

Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC), one of Asia’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, today announced that its wholly owned subsidiary Mitsubishi Fuso Truck Europe-sociedade Europeia De Automoveis Sa (MFTE), Tramagal, Portugal, has started delivery of FUSO Canter light-duty trucks to Morocco. This marks an important milestone to deliver trucks outside Europe for the first time in MFTE’s 50-year history.

Yoshiro Motoyama, MFTBC Senior Vice President of Operations Trucks & Buses, said: “The Tramagal plant is an outstanding example of our Daimler Trucks’ international footprint. Today’s announcement not only represents a historical milestone for MFTE, but also reinforces our commitment to bring our operations closer to the market.”

Yasuyuki Sudo, MFTBC Director of Sales & Market Management EMEA/Americas/Oceania, said: “Our sales in Africa have been very strong driven by its domestic demand in infrastructure and transportation sectors. With additional new products in the pipeline, we plan to further grow with the market in the medium- to long-term.”

According to Sudo, the company is significantly increasing its sales in Africa with 7,300 trucks and buses sold in the first nine months of 2014 (+37%). In Morocco, sales increased to 1,400 units in the same period representing a strong show for the company (+15%). Reflecting MFTBC’s momentum in the overall African continent, the company had just launched its latest Canter light-duty truck for South Africa where the trucks are being produced and distributed locally since September 2014.
