New entry-level and range-topping engines, BMW xDrive for the BMW 3 Series Touring – Intelligent all-wheel drive also available for other BMW 3 Series and BMW 6 Series models – EU6 classification as standard for further BMW 1 Series, BMW 3 Series, BMW X3 and BMW Z4 models – Launch of the new BMW Z4 and the Limited Edition Lifestyle models for the BMW 1 Series Coupe and BMW 1 Series Convertible ranges – New generation Professional navigation system now also available for the BMW 1 Series, BMW 6 Series and BMW X3 – Intelligent Emergency Call standard for the BMW 3 Series and BMW 6 Series ranges.

BMW will be treating customers to even greater driving pleasure and an even more diverse line-up of models from spring 2013, thanks to additional engine and drive system variants, an expanded range of equipment and attractive new BMW ConnectedDrive features. The selection of petrol engines available for the BMW 3 Series Touring will stretch from the entry-level BMW 316i Touring developing 100 kW/136 hp all the way to the similarly new flagship model, the BMW 335i Touring with 225 kW/306 hp. The engine line-up will be bolstered by another two diesel variants, including the extremely efficient BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Edition Touring. Customers will also be able to order the new BMW 3 Series Touring with intelligent all-wheel drive from spring 2013; five xDrive variants will be available initially. The move sees BMW pushing ahead with its model offensive in the all-wheel-drive sector; six additional xDrive variants will be added to the BMW 3 Series range in total, while the BMW 6 Series will welcome a further four all-wheel-drive models.

Meanwhile, the number of models which meet the EU6 exhaust stipulations – due to come into force in September 2014 – as standard is also set to grow. An exclusive package of equipment features marks out the Limited Edition Lifestyle models poised to swell the ranks of the BMW 1 Series Coupe and BMW 1 Series Convertible in spring 2013. Plus, the new generation of the Professional navigation system will be available as an option for all variants of the BMW 6 Series, the BMW X3 and the BMW 1 Series in both 5-door and 3-door guise. Standard equipment for all BMW 6 Series and new BMW 3 Series models will now include Intelligent Emergency Call with automatic vehicle location and accident severity detection, while the new BMW 3 Series will also feature a hands-free system and USB interface as standard in future.

New BMW 3 Series Touring: four additional engine variants, including the BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Edition.
Two new petrol engines and a pair of diesel units will combine to lend even greater depth to the new BMW 3 Series Touring’s engine range from spring 2013. The new BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Edition Touring, for example, offers the most impressive blend of driving pleasure and fuel economy. Power comes courtesy of a 120 kW/163 hp four-cylinder diesel unit. The engine’s inherent efficiency and the EfficientDynamics technology fitted as standard across the BMW 3 Series range are complemented in this model by attributes including optimised aerodynamics. The BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Edition Touring is offered with both a six-speed manual gearbox and an eight-speed automatic, both versions recording average fuel consumption of 4.3 litres per 100 kilometres (65.7 mpg imp) in the EU test cycle and CO2 emissions of 112 grams per kilometre. Its exceptional efficiency is accompanied by the sporting virtues customers expect from BMW. Indeed, the BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Edition Touring requires just 8.3 seconds (automatic: 8.2 seconds) for the dash from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph).

The second new diesel variant in the line-up is the BMW 325d Touring. Its fourcylinder diesel engine boasts BMW TwinPower Turbo technology with a twostage turbocharging system, develops 160 kW/218 hp and produces maximum torque of 450 Newton metres (332 lb-ft). The BMW 325d Touring sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.9 seconds, while average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle stands at 5.1 litres per 100 kilometres / 55.4 mpg imp (CO2 emissions: 134 g/km). The additional engine variant will also be introduced simultaneously for the new BMW 325d Sedan. The new BMW 316i Touring entry-level petrol engine is powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and developing 100 kW/136 hp. The engine teams up with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, but an eight-speed automatic can also be ordered as an option. The BMW 316i Touring accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 9.4 seconds (automatic: 9.3 seconds). Its average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle stands at 5.9 / 6.2 litres per 100 kilometres (47.9 / 45.6 mpg imp), while CO2 emissions come in at 138 – 143 g/km, depending on the tyre format fitted.

The most sporting variant of the BMW 3 Series Touring is the BMW 335i Touring, fuelled by the range-topping straight-six engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology developing 225 kW/306 hp. A 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) time of 5.5 seconds – dropping to 5.2 seconds in tandem with the eight-speed automatic gearbox – tells its own story. The eye-catching vivacity of the hot-heeled Touring is even more impressive given its average fuel consumption of just 8.1 litres per 100 kilometres / 34.9 mpg imp (automatic: 7.6 l/100 km / 37.2 mpg imp) in the EU test cycle and CO2 emissions of 189 grams per kilometre (automatic: 177 g/km).

BMW xDrive offensive: five variants of the new BMW 3 Series Touring with intelligent all-wheel drive available initially.
The BMW 335i Touring can also be ordered from launch with BMW xDrive. This variant of the headline model comes as standard with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and will make its debut alongside four other new BMW 3 Series Touring models fitted with the intelligent all-wheel-drive system. For example, the BMW 320i xDrive Touring (135 kW/184 hp) and BMW 328i xDrive Touring (180 kW/245 hp) four-cylinder petrol models and BMW 320d xDrive Touring (135 kW/184 hp) four-cylinder diesel are all slated for launch in spring 2013. All three come with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard or an eight-speed automatic as an option. And the brand’s latest excursion into the all-wheel-drive market also sees the introduction of the BMW 330d xDrive in both Touring and Sedan form. Here, the xDrive system joins forces with a 190 kW/258 hp sixcylinder in-line diesel engine and an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Four new BMW 6 Series models with xDrive raise the number of allwheel- drive models in the BMW range to 74. The all-wheel-drive representatives in the BMW 6 Series line-up will also swell in number come spring 2013. New on the scene will be the BMW 640i xDrive Convertible, BMW 640i xDrive Coupe and BMW 640i xDrive Gran Coupe – all powered by a six-cylinder in-line petrol engine with output of 235 kW/320 hp – and the BMW 640d xDrive Gran Coupe, whose straight-six diesel unit develops 230 kW/313 hp. The new all-wheel-drive additions to the BMW 6 Series range also come with an eight-speed sports automatic gearbox as standard. BMW xDrive enhances traction, directional stability and dynamic performance through corners by electronically varying the distribution of engine power between the front and rear axle, and the number of BMW models benefiting from its skills will rise to 74 in spring 2013. The xDrive selection ranges from compact BMW 1 Series cars and BMW X models all the way to the BMW 7 Series luxury Sedan. Optimised emissions: 35 BMW models already meet the EU6 exhaust emissions stipulations as standard.

Also poised to grow in number in spring 2013 are the BMW models complying with the EU6 norm as standard. Both the 5-door and 3-door variants of the BMW 114i, BMW 116i and BMW 118i meet the standard, which is due to come into force in 2014. In the BMW 3 Series family, the BMW 316i, BMW 320i xDrive and BMW 328i xDrive comply with the norm in Touring form. The BMW X3 xDrive20i and BMW X3 xDrive28i, as well as the BMW Z4 sDrive18i, BMW Z4 sDrive20i and BMW Z4 sDrive28i Roadsters, will likewise be available in EU6 trim from spring 2013. All of which will bring the total number of EU6-compliant BMW models to 35.

New BMW Z4 in the starting blocks: Roadster now boasts even greater appeal and individuality.
With its new exterior features, detailed interior refinements, a new equipment package and new entry-level engine variant, the BMW Z4 is about to make an even more attractive and cutting-edge entrance in spring 2013. Three new bodywork colours are available along with the likewise new Design Pure Traction special equipment package. Black and orange tones in the interior make for a particularly exhilarating colour contrast. Further scope for personalisation is provided by new 17-inch and 18-inch lightalloys wheels and the optional M Sport package. The new entry-level model will come in the guise of the BMW Z4 sDrive18i, powered by a 2.0-litre engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology developing 115 kW/156 hp. This new entry point to the Z4 range can also be specified with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Exclusive aesthetics: Limited Edition Lifestyle for the BMW 1 Series Coupe and BMW 1 Series Convertible.
Exceptional driving pleasure and an exclusive allure have helped earn the BMW 1 Series Coupe and BMW 1 Series Convertible a unique status in the premium compact segment. And the introduction of Limited Edition Lifestyle model variants will shine an even brighter spotlight on their individual characters from spring 2013. A cleverly assembled suite of exterior and interior features emphasises the sophisticated aesthetics of both models. Customers can specify the Sapphire Black metallic and Space Grey metallic exterior paint finishes as alternatives to the exclusive Mineral White metallic. Whichever shade customers opt for, the BMW “kidneys” will greet them with an exclusive ornamental front grille whose slats feature a chrome finish at the front and are white at the sides. Other distinctive features of the exterior include Chrome Line window recess finishers and side window surrounds, 18-inch light-alloy wheels in double-spoke design and with a bicolour Ferric Grey paint finish, and matt chrome or black chrome (BMW 135i and BMW 123d) exhaust tailpipe embellishers.

A brown softtop with silver pigmentation provides the BMW 1 Series Convertible with another exclusive Limited Edition Lifestyle feature. Limited Edition Lifestyle interior design cues include Tobacco brown leather trim with white contrast stitching providing an effective flourish against the brown surface, coupled with seat heating for driver and front passenger. A brown sports leather steering wheel with white contrast stitching continues the theme. Adding the finishing touches to the high-end interior ambience are door sill finishers bearing “BMW Limited Edition” lettering, Fineline Stream exquisite wood trim strips, an anthracite-coloured roof liner (for the BMW 1 Series Coupe) and floor mats with colour-coordinated piping. Limited Edition Lifestyle versions of the BMW 1 Series Coupe and BMW 1 Series Convertible can be specified as an option with the model-specific M Sport package. This combination brings a black M leather steering wheel to the mix. Press Release Date January 2013 Subject BMW model update measures for spring 2013.

New-generation Professional navigation system now also available for the BMW 6 Series, BMW X3 and new BMW 1 Series.
The latest generation of the Professional navigation system works even faster thanks to an extremely powerful processor, offers additional route display functions and exudes an immediate allure with its three-dimensional graphics – boasting sharp resolution – for all menus. The attendant levels of driving enjoyment can be sampled from spring 2013 in all BMW 6 Series models, the new BMW 1 Series and the BMW X3. To accommodate the driver’s personal music collection, the hard drive storage of the Professional navigation system has been expanded to 20 GB. As in the BMW 6 Series range, the new BMW 3 Series now also comes as standard with a hands-free facility using Bluetooth connectivity and a USB interface to link music players and USB sticks to the car’s infotainment system. The latest generation of the Professional navigation system also stands out with its further enhanced ease of use. Its directly selectable function bar can be used to switch quickly between map views as well as flash up weather information and Real Time Traffic Information alerts instantly. Added to which, split-screen capability now allows drivers to view High Guiding alerts with detailed intersection displays, including precise Lane Guiding. The 3D city model display facility has also been expanded, and now provides a perspective and realistic depiction of roads and houses via the on-board monitor to help drivers navigate traffic as effectively as possible.

The new generation of the Professional navigation system also adds new speech recognition functions to the array of Mobile Office Services from BMW ConnectedDrive. Drivers have already been able to view calendar entries, textbased messages (SMS, email), tasks and notes on the on-board monitor and have them read out via the Text to Speech function, allowing them to absorb the messages and information with minimal distraction from the road ahead. But the latest innovation adds a dictation function that employs a full speech recognition system to transcribe the driver’s words. The dictated text can then be sent by SMS or email.

From spring 2013, BMW 6 Series models will also have the option of a multifunctional instrument display. This freely programmable cockpit display takes its cue from the Driving Experience Control mode that has been selected. Information is clearly differentiated by means of varying graphics and colours in the displays. In COMFORT mode, the instrument display with black panel technology presents a classical view of four dials. In ECO PRO mode, the rev counter turns into an EfficientDynamics display indicating how efficiently the driver is tackling the journey. In SPORT mode, the speedometer shows the speed in digital form through a large, centrally positioned figure, while the selected gear is displayed in the middle of the rev counter.

The new BMW Head-Up Display will join the ConnectedDrive functions available for the BMW X3 from spring 2013. The latest generation of the system, which projects relevant information into the driver’s direct field of vision on the windscreen, uses a full spectrum of colours to display graphics and symbols, which means road signs, for example, can be depicted extremely realistically. The new BMW Head-Up Display is available for the BMW X3 in conjunction with another new feature, the instrument cluster with extended features. The chrome exhaust tailpipe embellisher, meanwhile, adds extra appeal to the car’s external appearance and will now come as standard on all variants of the BMW X3. Intelligent Emergency Call from BMW ConnectedDrive: standard for the new BMW 3 Series and BMW 6 Series from spring 2013. BMW has also taken a leading role when it comes to emergency call activation in the event of a collision, and is set to build on this position in spring 2013.

Back in 1997 in the USA and 1999 in Europe, BMW became the world’s first carmaker to introduce an extended emergency call system with automatic vehicle location. And now this BMW ConnectedDrive system, the latest version of which also includes an accident severity detection function, comes as standard on all BMW 6 Series and new BMW 3 Series models. In the event of a collision, Intelligent Emergency Call with automatic vehicle location and accident severity detection sends out information selected to enable rapid and effective assistance at the scene of the accident. The data, which is transmitted automatically to the BMW call centre using mobile phone technology, includes the location of the vehicle to the nearest metre, its chassis number, model designation and body colour, and information collected by the vehicle’s sensors. This helps to establish how many people there are in the vehicle and which airbags have been deployed. The sensors also register the intensity of the impact, helping to identify and distinguish between frontal, rear-end, side-on and multiple collisions, and detect a possible roll-over. This data gives the emergency services detailed information on the type of collision. The emergency call can also be triggered manually to summon assistance as rapidly as possible for other road users, for example. The TeleServices function will also be available for the BMW 6 Series and new BMW 3 Series as standard from spring 2013. This telematics service allows important service-related data about the car to be automatically transmitted to the customer’s BMW Service Partner of choice. The timing of a service and the amount of work required are automatically identified by the vehicle and the relevant data is sent to the BMW Service Partner via a telephone connection. The TeleServices can also be used to arrange a service appointment. New equipment packages, attractive pricing. Spring 2013 will see a range of new equipment packages offered for various BMW model ranges. Other packages will be enhanced by additional components, bringing with them further financial advantages over selecting individual options.

As of spring 2013, the Comfort Package available for the BMW 5 Series Sedan and BMW 5 Series Touring will include automatic climate control with extended features, Park Distance Control (PDC), seat heating and lumbar support for driver and front passenger, automatically dimming rear-view mirror, the ambient light option and the HiFi loudspeaker system. For the BMW X3, two new equipment packages will be added to the catalogue. The Comfort Package for the Sports Activity Vehicle comprises automatic tailgate operation, the climate comfort windscreen, the storage package, 2-zone automatic climate control, cruise control with braking function and the multifunction steering wheel, as well as the Professional radio.
