The performance of the powertrain is a significant factor in the development of any vehicle. ­­­For some time now, figures obtained during drive-cycle tests that claim to represent the performance of powertrains have been under question. With gaps appearing between real-world and official recorded figures, the industry is calling for new regulations that will govern the claims OEMs make when marketing their vehicles. Some industry experts believe that OEMs have become too reliant on these tests, and as a result, the real-world performance of their vehicles has been compromised.
