Platooning technology making ground in Europe

OEMs are confident that the European Truck Platooning Challenge was a positive step in making platooning legal in Europe, writes Freddie Holmes

The Netherlands recently initiated the European Truck Platooning Challenge as part of the transportation initiative of its 2016 European Union Presidency. Through the challenge, six OEMs – DAF Trucks, Daimler Trucks, Iveco, MAN Truck & Bus, Scania and Volvo Trucks – utilized semi-automated technology on public roads across various European countries.

Travelling from a handful of European cities to the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands, the primary aim of the challenge was to accelerate the implementation of platooning technology.
