VDA: Minister Altmaier and VDA President Müller pay tribute to automotive industry’s efforts during corona crisis

Numerous German automotive companies are currently taking positive action by switching their production to other items, procuring medical protection equipment and donating materials and money

Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Peter Altmaier, and the President of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), Hildegard Müller, discussed the automotive industry’s contribution to health protection during the corona crisis today via video link. Numerous German automotive companies are currently taking positive action by switching their production to other items, procuring medical protection equipment and donating materials and money.

Minister Altmaier said, “The fact that companies are helping by making donations, releasing medical staff to work in the public sphere, and switching their production to manufacture other items represents a major contribution in this difficult situation. We share a huge responsibility for overcoming the crisis. A key aspect here is the solidarity within society as a whole, and solidarity among individual firms.”

“The corona crisis poses a unique challenge for the German automotive industry. Our member companies are taking very dedicated action to beat this crisis and at the same time to support society and protect people’s health,” said VDA President Hildegard Müller. “I wish to thank the firms that are donating equipment or funding the helpers, and those that have quickly begun to produce components for medical devices or face masks. I also wish to commend the politicians for a swift and focused response to the crisis.”
