In October 2013, in all 265,400 new passenger cars were registered in Germany. This is a rise of a good 2 per cent. October 2013 had the same number of working days as the same month last year. During the first ten months of this year the volume of new registrations in Germany slightly exceeded 2.48 million cars (-5 per cent).
Incoming domestic orders increased by 9 per cent in October. This was the third month of growth out of the last four months and the largest percentage rise since May 2011. Matthias Wissmann, President of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), stressed: “This demonstrates the continuing gradual stabilisation on the German market.”
October exports came to 352,100 units, which was also 2 per cent up on last year. Since January the German manufacturers have exported almost 3.5 million passenger cars built at German plants, now pushing the figure for the year-to-date just above that for 2012 for the first time.
Domestic production proved stable in October. In Germany a total of 454,200 passenger cars were built, i.e. nearly as many as in the same month in 2012. In the first ten months of the current year over 4.5 million passenger cars were produced, which almost equalled the 2012 figure.
