Designed for high-performance vehicles and SUVs, the new MICHELIN Pilot Alpin and MICHELIN Latitude Alpin tires have hit the European markets just in time for the winter season.
MICHELIN Pilot Alpin tire, safe, powerful performance, winter after winter Boasting excellent safety ratings from an independent organization,1 the MICHELIN Pilot Alpin tire delivers:
– Enhanced safety: by braking three meters sooner on wet roads and four meters sooner on snowy roads(1).
– Enhanced mobility, with superior traction: on snow and ice(2).
– Enhanced control, with better handling in all winter driving conditions(3).
MICHELIN Latitude Alpin tire, safe driving, winter after winter Season after season, the new MICHELIN Latitude Alpin tire high-performance SUV tire offers, in winter conditions:
– Enhanced safety, by braking two meters sooner on wet and snowy roads and three meters sooner on icy roads(4).
– Enhanced mobility, with superior traction on snowy and icy roads(5).
– Enhanced control, with better handling in all winter driving conditions(6).
These two new tires have been developed with all of Michelin’s tread-life and fuel economy expertise.
(1) On average, compared with its predecessor. Braking from 90 to 0 km/h on wet pavement and from 50 to 0 km/h on snowy pavement. Tests conducted by TÜV SÜD in 2012 on 245/40 R 18 V tires.
(2) On average, compared with its predecessor. Tests conducted by TÜV SÜD in 2012 on 245/40 R 18 V tires.
(3) On average, compared with its predecessor (handling on wet and snowy pavement; cornering grip on wet, snowy and icy pavement). Tests conducted by TÜV SÜD in 2012 on 245/40 R 18 V tires.
(4) On average, compared with its predecessor. Braking from 90 to 0 km/h on wet pavement and from 50 to 0 km/h on snowy and icy pavement. Tests conducted by TÜV SÜD in 2012 on 235/65 R 17 H tires.
(5) On average, compared with its predecessor. Tests conducted by TÜV SÜD in 2012 on 235/65 R 17 H tires.

Shared technologies for two winter tire lines dedicated to high-performance vehiclesTo engineer the new MICHELIN Pilot Alpin and MICHELIN Latitude Alpin tires, the innovative Ridge-n-Flex winter tire design was developed, based on the optimized combination of two components:
1) A reworked tread, whose deeply grooved design offers outstanding grip on winter roads. Intersecting StabiliGrip self-locking sipes ensure optimal tread block rigidity, for more precise steering. Featuring a larger number of ribs and sipes, this design helps to deliver excellent grip and braking performance on icy or snow-covered pavements.
Number of additional ribs(1):
MICHELIN Pilot Alpin tire: + 74%
MICHELIN Latitude Alpin tire: + 40%
Number of additional sipes(1):
MICHELIN Pilot Alpin tire: + 135%
MICHELIN Latitude Alpin tire: + 75%
(1) Compared with previous tire lineups.
On the MICHELIN Pilot Alpin tire, two tread patterns were developed to meet the technical specifications of sports cars: an asymmetrical pattern, optimized for the wide range of powerful vehicles now on the market, and a directional pattern jointly developed with Porsche.
The MICHELIN Total Performance strategy, which is designed to deliver more performance in the same tire, is illustrated by these two new high-tech winter tires, both of which offer an extensive performance package.
