Formerly known as VW Truck & Bus, Traton was created in 2018 and houses the MAN and Scania truck brands alongside Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus and the RIO digital services brand.

According to Jonathan Storey, author of a new Automotive World strategy update which focuses on the prospects for Traton, the company’s partial IPO in June 2019 was a positive move to begin separating the truck operations from Volkswagen’s core passenger vehicle activities.

“Traton’s output over the next few years is expected to move broadly in line with its markets, neither under-performing nor out-performing significantly,” notes Storey. “Over the 2019-2023 period, group output is expected to peak in 2022 at over 250,000 units dipping in 2023 due to an anticipated downturn in South America.”
