The Experimental Vehicle Team (EVT) at St. Thomas Academy (STA) high school sponsored by Power Systems Research Sunday won its class in the national competition sponsored by Shell Eco-Marathon here Sunday.

The team came in first in its category, Urban Concept Battery Electric, with a total of 50.3 miles per kilowatt hours. It also placed first in the regional qualifier of the Drivers World Championship, and will once again compete in London at the end of May! Its the second year in a row that the team has qualified for international competition in London; last year the team finished sixth in its class in London.

PSR has been sponsoring the EVT at the school in Mendota Heights, Minnesota, USA, for several years, and we have one of the team’s early models on display in our lobby in Eagan.

George Zirnhelt, the founder of PSR, was a generous donor to many community organizations, especially those involving high school students interested in engineering and science. Two projects in particular attracted his interest: The STA Experimental Vehicle Team and the Lightning Robotics FIRST teams at Eastview High School in Apple Valley, MN.
