For 2016, it’s expected that GDP global growth will grow by about 3.6%, a slight increase of less than 1% over over 2015, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

At the same time, growth in global truck production for 2016 across all fuels, will be modest growth at about 1%, according to Kamini Patel of Power Systems Research (PSR).

PSR has been a leader in tracking global production of engines and related equipment for 40 years.

Patel, PSR vice president and managing director for European operations, is based in Brussels. She made her comments in an article published in the January 2016 issue of Diesel-Progress-International magazine.

Overall, it looks like there will be a deceleration in credit, investment and lack of export growth in the emerging markets, especially China, Brazil and Russia. While economies in Brazil and Russia may improve this year, they will still be in recession,

Advanced economies, such as the U.S., Europe and Japan, could grow slightly, about 0.2%, notes Patel, but that’s less than the global average.

“Six years after the worst recession ever, we are looking at modest growth of 2% for diesel engine production,” says Patel. PSR
