The winners of the 3rd Xuanyuan Award were announced in the Beijing Auto Museum on January 18th, 2016

EFS Business Consultancy and China Auto Business Review proudly presented the winners of the 3rd Xuanyuan Award during a festive ceremony in the Beijing Auto museum. Among the guests were the Xuanyuan Award jury members from Germany, the U.S., the U.K., South Korea and China, automotive executives from local and international OEMs as well as more than 150 media professionals.

The award ceremony marked the endpoint of the Xuanyuan Award 2016, which was officially kicked-off during a press conference in October 2015. During the nomination phase the award committee received 27 nominations from both local and international OEMs. In addition to analyzing the merits of each nominee, the award committee also carried out an vehicle assessment in Xiangyang, Hubei province, with the aim to get an even better understanding of the product characteristics of each nominee. During the days preceding the award the Jury gathered in Beijing and decided on the winner as well as special awards

Geely Borui GC9 wins the Xuanyuan Award 2016

This year the jury was especially impressed with the Geely Borui GC9, the fist car from a local OEM that is able to compete in the C-segment.

By improving the product in all aspects Geely was able to standout among local OEMs and set a strong statement for the entire local industry.

During the laudatio, jury member Mr.Xu Changming, Director of the department for information resource development in the state information center, especially praised the big improvement over the predecessor generation and the high quality which was unheard of in local vehicles.

3 Special Awards announced

In addition the jury decided to hand out the following three special awards:

  • Special Award for New Product Experience to BAIC Senova X25
  • Special Award for Consistent Portfolio Strategy to SAIC-GM-Wuling Baojun 560
  • Special Award for Design to Dongfeng-Nissan Lannia

No Award for New Energy Vehicle

Given the high importance of new energy vehicles for the development of the domestic industry, the jury was also discussing the viability of handing out a special award in this category. Unfortunately, after intensive discussions it was unanimously decided that no vehicle was deemed worthy to received the price this year. While the genes for successful new energy vehicles are there, as of today no OEM is integrating them into an attractive package for an attractive price. However, given the commitment of the Chinese government and the ongoing efforts by local OEMs it is only a matter of time until a special award for New Energy Vehicles can be handed out.
