Dr Ann Marie Sastry, President and Chief Executive, SAKTI3, has been confirmed as the moderator at the opening session of the eMobility stream at Automotive Megatrends USA ’14, which takes place in Michigan on 18 March 2014.
Dr. Sastry is an entrepreneur, researcher and educator in battery science and technology. Under her leadership, Sakti3’s battery technology was named one of the 2011 World’s Top Ten by MIT’s Technology Review Magazine.
Sastry leads Sakti3 during a period of rapid and solidly supported growth, garnering investments from Khosla Ventures; and the world’s leading electric drive vehicle manufacturer (General Motors, 2010).
During her 17 years at UM, she built laboratories, centres, and programs in several departments and disciplines, involving industry and other research institutions. She is the recipient of several of the highest honours in her field for her technical contributions, including the 2011 ASME Frank Kreith Energy Award, 2007 ASME Gustus Larson Award and the NSF’s Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (1997).
Dr. Sastry founded two research centres, in bioscience and battery technology. She directly led research funded by NSF, NIH, DoD (Army, ONR, DARPA) and by corporations (General Motors, Ford) in addition to several national laboratories (SNL, LBNL, ORNL). She also trained and mentored generations of students who have gone on to positions in top universities and corporations, including the technical staff who have developed the models, computational codes and processes that comprise Sakti3’s present technology.
