Caravan Salon 2018 with world premieres and classic models from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is unveiling a completely new campervan range at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is unveiling a completely new campervan range at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf. The Grand California, based on the current Crafter, is making its world premiere at the show. Another premiere at the largest trade fair for motorhomes and caravans (24 August – 2 September 2018) will be celebrated by the new California 30 Years – a special anniversary Bulli, limited to 999 vehicles, to mark the iconic campervan’s 30th birthday.

Grand California: The highlight of the Caravan Salon 2018 is the new Grand California – a large campervan with the Crafter’s innovative drive, assistance and infotainment systems. With the Grand California concept, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has created a contemporary, young and charismatically designed campervan. With its clear styling, bright colour scheme and carefully thought-out details, the near-production model takes its lead from last year’s eye-catching concept vehicle. The launch is planned for early 2019.

Key features that differentiate it from the California ‘T6′ are a spacious rear sleeping area with fixed bed, an optional children’s bed in the roof space complete with panoramic tilting sunroof and a fully fitted bashroom. As an option for globetrotters the Grand California will be available with (4MOTION) all-wheel drive as an alternative to the standard front-wheel drive.

California 30 Years: Thirty years ago the first California made its debut. It was based then on the third Transporter generation. The generation on sale today is the sixth. Over those 30 years, sales of the iconic campervan have totalled over 165,000. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is now celebrating this anniversary with the California 30 Years, a special edition limited to 999 vehicles. Price: €57,215.20 (Germany). The compact California with Bulli genes is the favourite for everyone who wants to use a campervan as their everyday vehicle.

The anniversary model’s many special features include the redesigned, elegant “Bright Wood” trim, an equipment upgrade and a pop-up roof in the contrast colours of Reflex Silver Metallic or Indium Grey Metallic. The limited edition serial number is incorporated into two badges on the B-pillars.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is showing the market-leading California in three further specifications at the Caravan Salon: Beach Edition, Coast and Ocean Grey. The stand featuring the campervan specialist’s new products is situated in hall 16.

On the outside area in front of hall 18 the company is showing the latest Caddy Beach. The most compact and most affordable member of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ campervan family. Also based there will be the “Once a Hippy, Always a Hippy” photo promotion.

The large range of campervans will be rounded off by the numerous manufacturers – they utilise the Bulli and the Crafter, plus the Caddy and the Amarok, as the base vehicles for their mobile home concepts. The various superstructure manufacturers can be found as follows:
