29 August 2013, An event has marked the end of the second phase of the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP). Results for 11 passenger car models tested under ASEAN NCAP’s offset frontal collision protocol have been released to the public.

ASEAN NCAP Second Phase Results Release
The announcement of test results for eleven cars underwent ASEAN NCAP test – Toyota Prius, Honda Civic, Subaru XV, Suzuki Swift, Mazda 2, Mitsubishi Mirage, Toyota Avanza, Perodua Alza, Nissan Almera, Daihatsu Xenia and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.

ASEAN Car Manufacturers Meeting (Parallel I – Afternoon Session)
A meeting for ASEAN’s car manufacturers with regard to ASEAN NCAP development took place. The meeting aims to create a harmonious environment between industry and ASEAN NCAP, addressing issues related to the NCAP program, including manufacturers’ readiness, industry situation, market border, supply and production.

A forum also took place for media and marketing people. This is the platform for ASEAN NCAP to share the meaning of test results as well as pointing out the type of car advertising that could mislead the public.

ASEAN NCAP is a new addition to the world’s NCAP community, aiming to raise safety standards, consumer awareness and to encourage a market for safer vehicles in the Southeast Asia. This is a collaborative effort between MIROS and Global NCAP, in which the latter funded the first phase of the project. ASEAN NCAP is also supported by the membership of automobile associations from Malaysia (AAM), the Philippines (AAP) and Singapore (AA Singapore).
