Allison automatic transmissions are the preferred option for natural gas trucks.
Allison Transmission has reinforced its commitment to natural gas technology as the ideal fuel for professional heavy-duty transport vehicles by partnering with Gasnam.
Allison manufactures automatic transmissions that are a perfect match for both compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) engines. It has been demonstrated that Allison enhances the features of this alternative fuel and optimizes its performance over a wide range of applications.
During his presentation at the Gasnam Assembly on February 7, Trond Johansen, Market Development Manager at Allison Transmission in Spain, explained the advantages of fully automatic transmissions over manual and automated manual transmissions: “Allison improves the efficiency of gas engines. Allison’s Continuous Power Technology™ increases engine torque while the company’s patented torque converter achieves the best performance and most efficient fuel use for your truck”.
Natural gas is the only alternative for heavy-duty transport Although electric vehicles are coming to the fore and are supported by considerable social pressure, it must be emphasized that, right now, natural gas is the only mature technology that will enable heavy-duty transport to achieve EU CO2 emissions targets (30% reduction in heavy-duty-vehicle CO2 emissions by 2030).
Natural gas trucks are more productive thanks to the enhanced efficiency and performance afforded by Allison fully automatic transmissions. Powerful engine start-up, similar to that of a diesel truck, is achieved with maximum engine torque. Constant torque and uninterrupted power delivery reminiscent of manual or semi-automatic transmissions, improve vehicle response time, even on steep grades.
Allison automatic transmissions allow for greater acceleration than other transmission models, thereby enhancing fleet productivity. Moreover, FuelSense®, Allison Transmission’s next-gen fuel-saving software, not only enables reductions in fleet emissions but also significantly lowers costs.
Allison also affords great benefits for drivers and pedestrians. In addition to safer handling and greater driving comfort, the combination of natural gas engine and Allison transmission reduces noise by between 50% and 90% compared to a diesel vehicle, meaning that noise emissions are similar to those of a family car.
“Allison Automatics reduce duty cycle times and the operating costs of our customers, who can work more and save money. We will be exhibiting at the forthcoming Gasnam Congress on April 10 and 11, where we will have the opportunity to showcase more benefits and illustrate why natural gas engines and Allison automatics are the perfect combination”, concludes Johansen.
