From 19 to 21 August, the world’s largest community of Beetle fans will be meeting for the twelfth time on Travemünde beach. Organiser Gaby Kraft has already received close to 600 registrations – a new record! As a long-established sponsor of the Beetle Sunshine Tour, Volkswagen will be unveiling revamped versions of the Beetle and the Beetle Cabriolet for the first time at the event. A special edition Beetle Denim will also be joining the line-up.
Volkswagen will be introducing the revamped Beetle at this year’s Sunshine Tour. The eternal classic will be showcasing redesigned bumpers, fresh colours, new upholstery fabrics and numerous customisation options. The outstanding highlight of the event will be the appearance of the special Denim edition; boasting a blue denim-look soft top, the vehicle gives a nod to the legendary ‘Jeans Bug’ from 1974.
As in previous years, this year’s Sunshine Tour will also be a casual get-together to admire the other vehicles as well as to talk shop all about the beetle generations. Visitors should be prepared for a visual feast again as jazzing up the vehicles has now become something of a tradition and this year’s motto of “Crazy – not for squares” calls for lots of creativity in decorating the cars.
One of the highlights of the Sunshine Tour is the laid-back group cavalcade on Saturday, 20 August. The rally will start at midday at various locations in Lübeck, for example, at the Kulturwerft Gollan and the Strandsalon on the rampart peninsula. The first participants are expected in the Brügmanngarten in Travemünde at 1 pm. The host of Germany’s famous television series “PS Profis” Sydney Hoffmann and German rapper MC Fitti will welcome them and then introduce the most original models on the “Beetlewalk”.
Variety is the name of the game with various DJs, parcours artists and the live band “Max and Friends” presenting the stage show to create a true beach feeling. Fun-filled entertainment for the whole family ranges from the “Miss Beetle” contest to Beetle tossing.
