ZF targets improved e-truck/e-bus TCO through compressors

By changing air compressor designs, ZF believes it can help generate significant cost and energy savings in electric commercial vehicles. By Will Girling

Commercial vehicles (CVs) depend on air compressors to generate and maintain pressure in core systems, such as air disc brakes, suspension, and other pneumatic applications. In an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle, compressors are powered by an auxiliary drive belt. However, the shift to electric CVs makes this approach impossible, subsequently delegating the task instead to an e-motor.
