The automotive industry has always had to contend with increasingly-demanding consumer expectations; the focus, however, has shifted rapidly in recent years from power and performance to connectivity. Vehicles that do not possess the technology that allows them to communicate with other vehicles (V2V), nearby infrastructure (V2I), Internet networks (V2N) and pedestrians (V2P), could soon be seen as collision-prone relics, equipped only with passenger safety mechanisms that depend on the reliability of primitive technologies such as seatbelts and airbags.
