VW scandal exposed “loopholes that need to be stamped out”

The ICCT believes changes must be made to the way OEMs test vehicles for emissions

Since the VW emissions scandal broke, discussion regarding the improvement of testing procedures has pointed to imminent change. Many industry experts believe a modification of procedures could be the only way to prevent similar scenarios in the future.

John German, Senior Fellow, International Clean Council on Transportation (ICCT), was part of the team that discovered anomalies between real-world tests results and official recorded figures in the VW Passat and Jetta models. Speaking to Automotive World, he lists several changes that could be made to today’s testing procedures.
