Tyres could cut 100 million metric tons of GHG emissions

In the scramble to identify small but vital improvements to bring down emissions, OEMs and suppliers have been forced to consider a vast variety of technologies and components. As a result, tyres are playing an increasingly important role in efforts to meet fuel economy and emissions legislation.

According to the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), improvements in tyre energy efficiency could reduce fuel consumption by between 3% and 5%. This equates to an annual greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction of 100 million metric tons across the global passenger vehicle segment, a figure that would increase dramatically with the simultaneous adoption of energy efficient tyres in the commercial vehicle (CV) segment.
