Takata insists regional recalls safe despite OEM, government concern

Takata is sticking with regional recalls of faulty airbags only in areas of high humidity, despite calls for nationwide expansion

During a congressional hearing into Takata airbag recalls on 3 December 2014, Takata’s Hiroshi Shimizu, Senior Vice President of Global Quality Assurance, insisted that a nationwide recall of vehicles fitted with faulty airbags is not necessary, and that recall action is only needed in areas of high temperature or humidity.
