US sales hit a speed bump in May, despite a strong tailwind at the end of the month from Memorial Day incentives. With two fewer selling days and one less weekend than May 2015, the overall figures were down year-on-year. Autodata puts the decline at about 6% while Ford, whose calculations also include medium and heavy trucks, puts the decline at 8%. Figures from WardsAuto peg the seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of light vehicle sales last month at 17.3 million while Autodata puts it at 17.45 million for the month.
