Interview: Martin Murray, Director of Electrification Engineering, General Motors

Michael Nash talks to GM’s Martin Murray about the expectations for vehicle electrification in China

At a recent workshop in its Pan Asia Technical Automotive Centre (PATAC), executives from GM outlined a plan to accelerate the launch of electrified vehicles across China.

The launch of three new models - the Chevrolet Malibu XL Hybrid, the Buick LaCrosse Hybrid and the Cadillac CT6 plug-in hybrid - in 2016 is central to the OEM’s strategy. To support the introduction of these vehicles to the Chinese market, GM said it plans to “fully localise” the production of its battery packs by investing in a new facility in Shanghai.

Automotive World caught up with Martin Murray, GM’s Director of Electrification Engineering. Based in Shanghai himself, Murray gave a glimpse into the market conditions for electrification in China, and described the company’s expectations for the future.
