Dan Nicholson has global responsibility for powertrain at General Motors. Based in the US, Nicholson spent five years until 2010 at GM’s Ruesselsheim, Germany operations, and prior to his current role had global responsibility for powertrain controls and calibration. This role is directly responsible for tailgate emissions, “so I am pretty knowledgeable about what is going on,” he tells Automotive World in response to a rather obvious opening question on the subject of emissions legislation, and the outlook for diesel as a consumer fuel in the wake of the Volkswagen Group diesel emissions scandal.
