High voltage fleets create new challenges for emergencies and repairs

The potential societal benefits of mass electric vehicle (EV) adoption have rightly prompted enthusiasm from governments and consumers alike, but could high-voltage electric powertrains bring new safety risks to the road? Battery fires in particular have become a source of concern for firefighting bodies. Fairly or not, one beleaguered company’s vehicles have repeatedly drawn attention to the issue: a number of Tesla fires have made headlines in the US in 2018.
