Growth of compact SUV segment spells bad news for small car production

Low gas prices, better fuel economy and rapid growth of the compact SUV segment prompt GM to cancel a shift at one of its Michigan facilities

General Motors has announced it will eliminate a shift at its Orion Assembly Plant, meaning further cuts to production for both the Chevrolet Sonic and the Buick Verano.
