Truck-makers are busy exploring the potential for electrification to clean up the sector, and battery propulsion has emerged as a clear candidate for short-haul applications such as delivery, return-to-base operations and drayage. But when it comes to long-haul, the overall consensus seems to be that, in lieu of revolutionary technological advances, batteries are not fit for purpose, with limited ranges, long charging times and a lack of fast-charging infrastructure making it an untenable proposition for operators.
