In the race to achieve better fuel mileage and reduce vehicular emissions, automotive manufacturers worldwide are trying out various approaches. One of these is to bring down the weight of the vehicles through the use of newer, lighter materials. A popular material at the moment is aluminium, which, while more expensive than the traditionally used steel, is still more economic than other new materials.
