EU approval for emissions testing ‘needs urgent overhaul’, say NGOs

Michael Nash takes a look at potential developments in European emissions testing

A group of Members in the European Parliament (MEPs) recently met with Janez Potočnik, former EU Commissioner for the Environment, as well as Günter Verheugen and Antonio Tajani, former Commissioners for Enterprise and Industry in Europe, to discuss emissions. As well as outlining the implications of the Volkswagen emissions scandal and the definition of defeat devices, the development of new tests to better represent real driving conditions was also brought to light.
