Replacing the Data Protection Act introduced in 1998, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) grants car owners a whole new level of control over the data that is collected and utilised via the car. It was created by the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission with the hope of strengthening and unifying data protection for all individuals within the European Union (EU). The new act will come into play in May of 2018, and is the first EU regulation that will help us all make sense of what we have come to know as car data.
