Cariad will grant VW ‘sovereignty’ over its electronics architecture

Volkswagen is aiming for 60% of its vehicle software to be built in-house by 2025. By Jack Hunsley

The transition to software-defined vehicles could upset the automotive hierarchy, moving the emphasis from mechanical excellence to software nuance. For those lower down the food chain, this transition represents an opportunity to gain ground on old rivals and upset the status quo. However, for those at the top—automakers—there’s reason to be wary.
