After years of delay and legal challenges, the US Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has at last issued a final rule requiring rear visibility technology. The rule impacts all new vehicles less than 10,000lbs and takes effect on 1 May 2018. Not only does it promise significant safety benefits, but it could also change the face of vehicle design.
